CBD. It’s starting to make it’s way around these days, but I’be been a CBD advocate even before all the hype. Why? Well, it’s an AMAZING way to help a varieties of health issues. But first. let’s take a quick look at what it is exactly.
What is CBD?
CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol, the primary non-psychoactive component of the plant Cannabis Sativa (marijuana). However, many confuse it with THC (the component of the marijuana plant that does have psychoactive affects and is what makes people “high”).
CBD vs THC
Both compounds have health benefits: THC has antispasmodic, analgesic, anti-tremor, anti-inflammatory, and can stimulate the appatitte. CBD also has anti-inflammatory benefits as well as anticonvulsant. antipsychotic, and neuroprotective properties.
THC is often limited for medical use because of it’s psychoactive side effects, but since CBD does not affect the mind in that way, it’s making leaps and bounds through the health and wellness industry!
THC has also been known to cause anxiety and even paranoia in some, however CBD actually works to counteract those side effects!
Proven Benefits of CBD
Relieves Pain and Inflammation, Helps MS
One of the most known benefits of CBD is it’s natural pain relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. This study found that CBD significantly suppressed chronic inflammatory and neuropathic pain in rodents spinal cords.
Multiple Sclerosis
A 2007 meta-analysis conducted in Canada, the combination of CBD and THC buccal spray was found to be effective in treating neuropathic pain in multiple sclerosis!
Reduces Anxiety
We all have anxiety, am I right? Some more than other and certain weeks may be more stressful due to our busy schedules, work, school, relationships, financial situations, and simply the demand to meet our daily needs to survive. Several studies have shown Cannabidiol reduces anxiety in patients with social anxiety disorders. Researchers also suggest that it may also be effective for panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Helps to Fight Cancer
I know, it’s a pretty bold statement to say that CBD can help fight cancer….but don’t take my word for it. Several scientific reports demonstrate that CBD contains pro-apoptotic effects that inhibit cancer cell migration, adhesion and invasion. This study also suggests that cannabidiol inhibited the growth of certain breast tumors.
In addition to fighting bread cancer cells, reserch also suggests that CBD can be used to inhibit the growth of lung and colon cancer cells, as well as a treatment for leukemia.
Relieves Nausea
Over 80 cannabinoid compounds found in marijuana, both TCH and CBD help rid nausea and vomiting.
Seizures, Neurological Disorders, and Muscle Spasms
I get asked all the time on my Instagram about neurological disorders. This is not something I have experienced so therefore I have not put that much time into the research for myself, however many studies have been performed and proven that CBD can help with seizures and even schizophrenia and dystonia (muscles spasms).
Does CBD show up on Drug tests?
Another common questions I get asked via Instagram is if CBD will show up on a drug test since may have to take them for work, school, etc. Well, if the CBD you are consuming is 100% THC free, then you shouldn’t be worried. Drug tests are looking to find THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol). So when choosing a CBD product, choose carefully and some packaging may even say “THC Free.” If you are really concerned, call the company yourself and ask. They should know right away and give you a quick answer….and if they don’t know or don’t seem 100% sure, that’s a clear sign to look for another brand. If you are scheduled to take a drug test and are still concerned, call the company that performs the test (or have a friend do it for you! haha) and just ask an anonymous question if CBD is a concern. We are all humans and most know what CBD is and what it’s used for / the health benefits so people on the other end should hopefully understand where you are coming from and why you may be consuming it.
Ok, now for the CBD FUDGE!
For this recipe, I used TheraTreats 100% no sugar organic cacao bar made with just 2 simple ingredients Organic cacao and CBD oil). I do know for a fact that their products are 100% THC free and have confirmed with the company myself.
I’ll be checking and responding to your questions, comments, or just pure thoughts of joy HERE on Instagram! See you there!
Ingredients:
2 TheraTreats Organic 100% bar * (code: lilsipper)
2 large bright yellow bananas (not spotted yet)
Directions:
1. Melt chocolate and puree with bananas.
2. Pour puree in a pan lined with wax/parchment paper or you can also use silicone molds.
3. Refrigerate at least 4-5 hours or overnight until firm. Store in refrigerator up to 3 days or freeze up to 2 weeks.
*If you don’t have TheraTreats bars, you can also use 1/2 cup of organic Santa Barbara Chocolate’s no sugar 100% cacao wafers ($10 off: lilsipper). The fudge will obviously not be CBD infused but the consistency and taste will be the same.
Looks wonderful! Since you mentioned them I’ve used TheraTreats to help my husband cope with his PTSD, it’s been extremely helpful. Thank you! You’ve also mentioned Evo hemp oil, is this also a CBD product? I find it a little confusing which are CBD and which aren’t. Again thank you❤️
Hi Katrina,
I’m so glad the Thera Treats have been helping! And hemp oil is derived from the hemp seeds and does not contain CBD. CBD oil is derived from the hemp leaves / stems. I hope that makes things a bit clearer. 🙂
Although this fudge looks AMAZING, my question is more about the CBD product itself. How often and how much cbd do you consume to help with anxiety/ocd and insomnia? Just curious if you have a recommendation. Also, would you recommend the oil over the bar for this if it’s a daily dosage? Thanks!
Hi Nicole, I consume it for many things and it can help in so many areas it just depends on what you are dealing with. For daily consumption you might want to try the oil instead
Really really LOVE your blog and instagram page! My husband has ulcerative colitis, so I am always looking for healthy alternatives for him since he is in remission. PLUS- I want to be as healthy as possible… 🙂 I have always been “health conscious” , and have been eating healthy, organic, non-GMO foods for a long time, but you have taught me so much! Just love what you are doing! I am terrible about liking, etc., and I will try to do better, but I very much appreciate you…always look forward to your posts! By the way…was loving those Rx Bars, and stopped eating them after your post, and amazingly, the weird stomach “stuff” I was experiencing went away. Go figure. Anyway- thank you for being you and sharing with all of us!
Would it be possible to use another fruit or even a vegetable instead of bananas? I am sensitive to histamine so bananas are a no no.
sure! you can use sweet potatoes! 🙂
Yum! Will definitely try that!
Can’t wait to make this today! Would bananas that are a little brown (or a lot brown 🤣 ) negatively effect the recipe?
Hi Laura,
spotted bananas have more sugar and the consistency wont be as thick
This by far is an important subject . There is so much controversy on CBD OIL. I use it everyday along with my Black seed Oil. It works wonders for tendonitis and an old ankle sprane.I am able to walk with no pain. I call it my miracle oil.
Love your blog, I was wondering if by any chance you know more or less how much CBD should be consumed in order to reap some of the benefits listed.
Hi Celia,
Each person is different and reacts to difference dosages.
Just ordered the bar..can’t wait to try this!! Thank you so much for all the knowledge you are sharing, Bethany!
Thanks for this recipe and info. What CBD oil do you use, if any. Can you recommend amount of fudge to east per day. And if you use CBD oil, recommended daily dose.
Hi Bonnie, I’m currently testing some oils but want to try them for myself prior to sharing to make sure I agree with it – stay tuned! And the dosage is up to you as each person is different.
I was going to ask the same thing as Bonnie, which oil you use i will be looking forward hearing your recommendation and this recipe OMG the consistency looks unbelievable amazing i want to prepare them nowwwwww 🙂
Thank you for this!! Is the chocolate the primary way you consume cbd? Is there a liquid product you recommend to add to recipes and does heat, etc. alter the oil? Thank you!!!!
Hi Amanda,
Currently in the process of testing some oils so stay tuned!
Thanks. I look forward to your CBD oil testing results. Always trust your judgement on healthiest products.
Wonderful idea! Thanks for answering the questions I was about to ask =)
