It’s a common misconception that ripe bananas contain more calories than unripe ones, however, A GREENER BANANA MEANS YOU’LL ABSORB FEWER CALORIES.
Huh? The less ripe a banana is, the more Resistant Starch it contains, and so the slower it is absorbed by the body and the lower its GI. This means more undigested starch passes into the large intestine, thus, you don’t absorb it.
Unripe bananas also have probiotic bacteria (a friendly bacterium that helps with good colon health). Resistant starch feeds the friendly bacteria in the intestine, having a positive effect on the type of bacteria as well as the number of them!
There is no right or wrong when it comes to green vs. ripe bananas, I am just highlighting the benefits of green ones in this post (so please! No comments on how I am bashing ripe bananas as they also have benefits.) Tell a friend!
